Since Elon Musk‘s takeover, Twitter has undergone notable changes. From revamping the BLUE verification to fighting war against the bots, the social giant isn’t stopping. The platform is set to undergo even more changes as it borrows TikTok’s popular “For You” tab in its new iOS update. The company announced in a tweet,

The “For you” and “Following” tabs replace “Home” and “Latest” and will be pinned to the top of your timeline so you can easily switch between them. Swipe to switch timelines instead of tapping the icon.

This change is one of the promises that Twitter CEO, Elon Musk made on the platform in his mission to make Twitter an “Everything app.” In December 2022, he replied to a tweet,

Couldn’t agree more! We’re making this change soon.

Main timeline should allow for an easy sideways swipe between top, latest, trending and topics that you follow. Twitter search nav already sorta does this after you search.

In 2016, Twitter tried rolling out algorithmic changes to its chronological home timeline, but after a backlash, it was replaced with a Sparkle icon and an option to choose from the chronological and algorithmic timeline. Previously, the Twitter app had the option to choose between “Latest” and “Home” tweets, with the latter showing, suggested tweets based on your activity. The feature was hidden behind a “Sparkle” icon on the top right corner of the app (currently available on Android and Web).

The “For You” and “Following” tabs will replace the “Home” and “Latest” tabs, which will help differentiate content on Twitter based on user experience and accounts followed.

This isn’t a major change considering that the feature has been hiding in plain sight for years. Still, it will surely encourage users to become habitual to algorithmic feeds, and eventually lead to the end of chronological feeds, that most people don’t like.

This is not the only feature promised by the CEO of Twitter. In addition, Twitter will allow users to publish longer tweets to favor long-form content, let users boost their replies on top of tweets, and use NFTs as profile pictures, thanks to Twitter’s BLUE subscription.
